> Bot Rules (by Trip Consulting) is a reviewed bot catalogue and rule generator for website operators. It helps you search published crawler/agent identities and produce sample robots.txt directives, Cloudflare WAF custom-rule expressions, or Apache .htaccess snippets to manage unwanted bots—especially AI scrapers and AI search crawlers that may ignore cooperative crawl policy.

## What this product is

- A curated, **published** catalogue of bot/agent identities (permanent IDs, names, categories, optional metrics such as robots.txt blocked prevalence and reported origin country).
- A public **generator** UI to filter that catalogue, select bots, and generate copy-paste rules.
- Key-protected JSON APIs for integrations (`/api/v1/feed` and related routes)—not an anonymous open dump of the full dataset in the browser.
- Documentation and Help that explain differences between robots.txt (advisory), Cloudflare WAF (edge enforcement), and Apache .htaccess (origin enforcement).

## What this product is not

- Not a managed firewall, bot-mitigation SaaS, or guarantee that blocking will stop spoofed User-Agents.

## How matching works

All three generator outputs currently match on the bot’s **catalogue name** (same token style as robots `User-agent` and WAF `contains`). Live HTTP User-Agent strings can differ; short names can false-positive. Prefer reviewing Help and source pages before blocking tools you rely on.

## Data and provenance (high level)

Catalogue observations are collated from reviewed imports (notably Known Agents metrics/links, and optional Cloudflare Radar directory linking after admin review). Public readers see only published revisions. Behavioural risk ratings remain unknown unless an administrator has reviewed them; category labels are not the same as abuse verdicts.
