This policy describes what information this website processes when you use the public pages and the bot-blocking generator. It is written to match the current application behaviour. It is not legal advice.

Who we are

Bot Rules is operated by Trip Consulting. Contact via the Trip Consulting site if you have privacy questions about this tool.

What this site does

The site publishes a curated bot catalogue and helps website operators generate sample robots.txt directives, Cloudflare WAF expressions, or Apache .htaccess snippets. Catalogue content is drawn from reviewed imports (including Known Agents observations and optional Cloudflare Radar directory links) and is published only after an administrator creates a public revision.

Information we process

Published catalogue (public)

The published feed and generator search results include bot names, descriptions, categories, identifiers, source provenance, optional metrics, and reviewed assessment fields that an administrator has chosen to publish. This information is intended to be public.

Generator page opens and catalogue searches (server logs for operators)

When you open the generator or search the catalogue, the server may record:

  • That a generator page was opened (daily aggregate counts).
  • Search queries and filter values you submit (for example text query, category, country, preset, sort, page size).
  • Approximate match counts and publication revision identifiers used for the search.
  • Your visitor IP address (preferring Cloudflare’s connecting-IP header when the site is proxied).
  • A coarse visitor country code when provided by Cloudflare (CF-IPCountry).
  • A first-party visitor identifier cookie (bbg_vid) used to group searches from the same browser in the private admin “Generator usage” view.

These usage records are for site operation and abuse analysis by administrators. They are not shown on public pages and are not sold.

Administration

Administrators sign in with configured credentials. Sign-in attempts may be throttled and logged privately. Admin sessions use cookies scoped to the administration area. Admin activity (reviews, imports, publication) is stored in a private audit log.

Cookies

Details of cookies used by this site are listed on the Cookies page. There is no cookie acceptance banner on this site; using the generator may set the visitor identifier described there.

Retention

Generator search history is retained according to the operator’s configured schedule (default on the order of months) and then removed by scheduled cleanup. Aggregate daily generator counters may be retained longer. Published catalogue revisions and private review data are retained as needed to operate the service.

Third parties

Pages load fonts and libraries from content delivery networks (for example jsDelivr, jQuery CDN, and Trip Consulting’s static font host). Those providers may process connection metadata under their own policies. Bot source data may originate from Known Agents, Cloudflare Radar, and similar directories; following their links leaves this site.

Your choices

  • You can use browser controls to block or delete cookies; clearing bbg_vid starts a new anonymous visitor id on the next generator visit.
  • You can avoid the generator if you do not want search activity logged.
  • Do not submit passwords or other sensitive personal data in search fields; they are not required to use the tool.

Changes

We may update this policy when the application’s behaviour changes. The “last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
